Symphony Go Live at Royal Melbourne Hospital

Ascribe is delighted to announce that Royal Melbourne Hospital has successfully completed their $56 million redevelopment project with the go-live of the Ascribe emergency department clinical information system, Symphony, on September 8, 2009.

The new department has a total of 106 beds and a patient volume in excess of 60,000 presentations per year.

Royal Melbourne Hospital is the largest emergency department in Victoria and has implemented the greatest project scope of the Symphony sites.

The project includes several complex interfaces providing seamless flow of information between the ED and multiple service departments such as pathology, radiology, outpatients and allied health.

Phase One of the project incorporates a fully electronic workflow for doctors (including diagnostic orders and documentation) and administrative staff. This has been completed

Phase two, to be implemented by the end of 2009, will incorporate medication orders and a fully electronic workflow for nursing staff plus additional interfaces for patient monitoring and RFID for patient tracking.

Symphony is Ascribe's Emergency Care solution and is used by over 108 Emergency Departments and Minor Injuries Units in Australia and the UK.

With this go-live, and Ascribe's implementation of Symphony earlier this year at Monash Medical Centre - Clayton, Symphony is now in use at the two largest ED's (in patient volume) in Victoria.

More about Symphony

Symphony is a PC-based Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system designed to improve patient healthcare by providing clinicians and clerical staff with a comprehensive clinical information access & retrieval IT solution. The system can operate either on a stand-alone basis or it can be integrated into existing computer systems. Symphony allows departments to monitor patient's progress, allocate resources and track performance targets. Symphony is installed in Emergency Departments in the UK, the Republic of Ireland and Australia.

Electronic Patient Record, Triage and Tracking: "Electronic White Board"

The Symphony tracking screen or "electronic white board" provides an on-screen display of all the clinical data relating to each patient. This includes full identification of the patient and all records in connection with the patient's current and previous attendances. An on-screen audit of who recorded the information and when is also available so as to facilitate further investigation if necessary. The records collected, and the data with them, can be defined by the system manager so as to build up an EPR that is both pertinent and practical.
