  • THOMM - The most dangerous time for a seriously ill hospital patient outside of surgery is during the “hand over” period. This period is renowned for errors of omission, errors in drug dosing, errors in management and monitoring of procedures. iClinix, in collaboration with Intel, Smart Services CRC and NSW Health (HNEAHS) has developed a real time “clinical hand over management application” that is totally mobile. Doctors meet and assign tasks to patients and prioritize these tasks, using the well known traffic light convention colour coding. Red patients or tasks mean these must be completed by the assignee. Patients or tasks that are lower level priority receive an amber colour and the least important patients or tasks receive green lights. The use of the Ultra Mobile Personal Computers (or Tablet/Notebook) with or without wireless facilities allows for network connection, allows for real or near real time data retrieval, access, editing, and saving. In the words of a Department Head of a major Teaching Hospital, Dr Al Gillies, “when the surgical team realised how we had improved our ”hand over” so well and so quickly, they wanted what we had – THOMM™ from iClinix”
