Scorpio Endoscopy

Ascribe's Scorpio Endoscopy System has been developed over the past 8 years to meet current requirements defined by the profession, GRS, JAG and other national drivers.

The system has kept pace with the continued growth in demand for endoscopy as a primary diagnostic procedure and the introduction of bowel cancer screening programmes and is used by a number of leading UK endoscopy units. Our continuing development programme will ensure that the system meets the challenges that future growth and the continued drive for improvement in clinical governance and effectiveness within the healthcare business and profession will bring.

Current Version

  • The latest release of Ascribe's Scorpio Endoscopy product includes enhancements to cover the latest GRS requirements which were introduced into the UK during 2007 and optimised for the BCSP requirements.
  • The new release consolidates nearly two years of development to meet the demands of the Global Rating Scale (GRS), which is a key focus of the endoscopy practice within the UK.
  • There have also been significant enhancements in the procedure scheduling functions of the system.

GRS Reports

Installed at over 15 acute sites in the UK, the Scorpio Endoscopy Reporting System integrates with Endoscopic cameras to capture a wide range of patient data to enable clinicians to follow best practice “Global Rating Scale” (GRS) clinical governance and easily generate reports that record:

  1. Completion Rates
  2. Sedation Rates
  3. Polyp Detection Rates
  4. Biopsy/Diarrhoea Correlation
  5. Gastric Ulcer Follow-up performance
  6. Automated 30-day mortality analysis
  7. Automated 8-day re-admission analysis

And all the other measures demanded by the GRS.

UK Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP)

Hospitals and clinics seeking to become part of the UK Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) are required to produce evidence of safe and  high-quality practice as defined by the Global Rating Scale (GRS) to qualify for the BCSP.

Sites using the Ascribe Scorpio Endoscopy System have found that the system helps gather the required comprehensive audit information quickly, accurately and fully.

The Ascribe Scorpio Endoscopy system is recognised as making a significant difference in helping to compile the required evidence to support successful JAG/GRS audits and delivering the information required to
participate in the BCSP.

Cancer Management

At several secondary care sites in the UK, the report and images from the Endoscopy system are automatically interfaced into the central Cancer management and reporting system, greatly improving the turnaround times for patient cancer referrals and reducing delays in the overall cancer pathway. The system delivers on-line report and image data to MDT (Multi-Disciplinary Team) meetings to complement PACS imaging and other critical results.

Design Principles
  • The system has been designed in conjunction with leading gastroenterology and respiratory endoscopy clinicians. The user interface of the system is easy to use and facilitates the rapid and accurate entry of data into the system.
  • Within the system, data items are stored once and made available wherever they need to be changed or displayed to the user. Logic rules ensure that only data entry fields relevant to the current context are
enabled/visible for the user to complete.
  • Comprehensive validation rules ensure users complete all mandatory fields and inappropriate values cannot be entered.
Navigating the System
  • Ascribe's Scorpio applications are designed to follow standard Microsoft Windows/Web CUI standards, allowing for efficient and familiar navigation.
  • The system has been designed to guide users through data-entry in a clinically logical sequence, thus minimising the need for users to think about navigation within the system.
  • Navigation around the system is made easy using consistent visual layout and techniques. A web Graphical User Interface (GUI) is used throughout.
Access Control
  • User access is restricted to those areas of the system relevant to their role and where security privileges have been granted. Logon IDs and passwords are synchronised with core Trust systems so that no additional access information needs to be memorised.
  • This approach allows both novice and experienced users to use the system efficiently.
Data Integration

Ascribe's Scorpio Endoscopy System data is stored in either a Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle relational database.  Current versions of these products are supported, with backward compatibility to previous
releases.

Migration from existing systems

Data from legacy endoscopy systems can be migrated and has been carried out at several customer sites.
