Introduction:

Ascribe Ltd, is a leading supplier of clinically focussed IT solutions in Healthcare, with customers in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia & New Zealand.

As the market leaders in Clinical Information systems we have been able to build a robust product portfolio from a number of complementary acquisitions.

Our focus is on solutions that directly improve patient care by reducing risk and making relevant information available to clinicians at 'the point of care'.

The connection between improvements in healthcare IT and saving lives was highlighted in the Audit Commission's report, 'A Spoonful of Sugar', it has been consistently re-enforced by subsequent studies in the UK and around the world.

Over 50% of the UK hospitals use our Pharmacy systems and we now offer solutions to over 25% of Mental Health, 30% of Accident and Emergency departments, retail pharmacies and GP’s. These solutions are installed internationally in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Ascribe plc was floated on AIM in 2004, and returned to private ownership in February 2009. Ascribe Ltd employs over 270 personnel in the UK, East Africa, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.

Our interoperable technology allows us to deliver the modern requirements of Healthcare IT systems without the need to replace the current third party systems. This allows us to deliver immediate benefit for our customers with tried and tested software.

A 2004 study issued by Liverpool University stated that UK citizens are more likely to die from a medical misadventure than from a road traffic accident. Ascribe intends to help remedy this situation dramatically and improve patient safety with its customers in the UK and internationally.

What makes Ascribe unique?

Medicines Management, Integration and Core Technology

The experience we have gained integrating our medicines management solutions enables us to offer a range of quality healthcare solutions where patient care is the driver. Our products and services have a proven track record of successfully delivering improvements to the patient care process. We have established a reputation amongst clinicians that is second to none.
Using the web technology created to integrate the medicines management processes, we are able to offer our product suite as a cohesive and integrated solution; this is achieved without the loss of any functionality and flexibility.
Ascribe's core technology integrates with an organisation's existing systems to enrich the clinical levels of information available in those systems with the addition of supporting processes and forms so enhancing (and providing a holistic view of) the care that can be offered to patients.

As experts in understanding clinical systems, workflow and process streamlining, we put the patient at the centre of our solutions and use technology to support integration and automation. We address the clinical care and business issues as well as the technology issues. This brings together clinicians, technologists, management and system information to produce truly joined-up solutions based on joined-up problem solving and thinking about the patient and care pathways.

  • Electronic Patient Record "EPR"
This division provides a range of comprehensive hospital administrative systems that monitor patients and medical resources. Patient administration information, including their care and medical records are comprehensively recorded and updated, this information is in turn capable of further integration with other hospital systems. Our EPR solution already includes tools for the collection of clinical data and integration with both speech and images. In addition, the EPR Division also provides solutions to track & monitor medical equipment and support requisite staff-training schedules and preventative maintenance to extend medical equipment ‘lifetimes’.

  • Emergency Care
Emergency Departments have to deal with constantly varying volumes of throughput with conditions that range from painful to life-threatening. Ascribe provides tested solutions, developed by clinicians that help to provide ‘at a glance' updates on the numbers and needs of patients, and monitor their progress from triage through treatment to discharge. Our Emergency Department solution enables clinicians to rapidly input patient data, search for past ‘episodes' and create paperless records to can be transferred quickly between trust sites, providing greater access to patient information and thereby reducing risk and improving patient safety.

  • Enterprise
Focusing upon multi-site and trust-wide implementations of IT systems, our Enterprise division currently focuses upon Electronic Prescribing (ePMA)solutions and Electronic Discharge (eDischarge) systems.

    ePMA
The ability to electronically prescribe medication enables clinicians to draw upon decision support systems and avoid legibility issues that can all too often lead to medication errors. This electronic recording has been extended to include the actual administration of medications, providing a paperless system which can be used to monitor results, effectiveness and ultimately, reduce risk and thereby save patients' lives.

    eDischarge
Our eDischarge system enables Trusts to ensure that as patients are discharged, that a communication is sent to their GP outlining the dates, diagnosis and treatment relating to their stay in the hospital.

  • Mental Health & Community Care
This Division provides care management solutions for all ages and abilities:

    Child Care
Ascribe's Child Care systems can record new birth notification, pre-school surveillance, immunisation and vaccination and school health examinations. The design is underpinned by the Child Health Informatics Consortium's (CHIC) specification and has been designed to include additional functions such as ‘relational registration'. Referrals and contact with services can be automatically triggered as a result of an attended screening or examination. Consequently, children can be registered at birth, monitored through pre-school surveillance, Vaccination & Immunisation, and school health examination, whilst at the same time be seen by other care professionals in other settings, with access to record-resultant care against the same record.

    Domestic care
Our Domiciliary Care solution is an easy to use system for the care and administration of patients who are based in their own homes; it provides a set of integrated tools to collect and report on client and service information and thereby create a comprehensive electronic clinical record. It can also be used to monitor invoicing and equipment management, and manage the allocation of staff and appointment schedules. The Ascribe system provides a consistent solution across broad geographic areas ensuring thoroughly documented and accessible best practice care.

    Care of the Elderly
Ascribe's Care of the Elderly solutions conform to the Single Assessment Process (SAP), introduced in the National Service Framework for older people in January 2002, aims to make sure older people's care needs are assessed thoroughly and accurately, but without procedures being needlessly duplicated by different agencies. The purpose of SAP is to ensure that older people receive appropriate, effective and timely responses to their health and social care needs, and that professional resources are used effectively and without duplication.

    Mental Health
Developing and administering a care programme for Mental Health Patients involves ensuring that a complete client history be made available to those agencies by facilitating a continuous feedback, monitoring, and communication process between members of the extended Mental Health Team (Acute / Intermediate and Primary care settings being covered). Ascribe provides solutions that support clear apportionment of responsibilities and high levels of clinical audit, reporting and information by maintaining a patient record which covers the service user involvement from first contact through the whole care management cycle to discharge and on into care in either an intermediate or primary care setting.

    Substance Misuse Service (SMS)
Central Government has called for wider support of people suffering from the effects of substance misuse, Ascribe provides clinical support systems to those working within the substance misuse arena, our solutions also greatly assists in the generation of full data reporting for dissemination back to regional and national bodies (i.e. Regional Drug Alcohol teams, NHS National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse). Ascribe's solution also provides the capability to record service user data, manage comprehensive care planning schedules and features a carefully constructed prescribing functionality that combines with the other modules to provide a focused clinical management tool.
